Today’s feature:

We have been humming in the background about this next Small Business SaturdayS Spotlight for some time. Originally Lovely Lenny Lizard met them as clients during a show in Oaks PA! Since then we have been in close contact humming along on top-secret products yet to come! We are so excited to shine on A Dragon’s Closet this weekend and always!! Much like our last business, A Dragon’s Closet has also been on hiatus to revamp its inventory and has just returned to the ETSY market. We are so happy to be able to feature them this week as they return!
Please join us as we get to know them better and maybe introduce you to a small business you didn’t know about. We hope you show your support by liking their posts, following their pages, and shopping in their stores! Without further ado let’s get to know A Dragon’s Closet!

~When did you start your small business?
“I started right after Christmas in December 2019.”

~What was your motivation to do so?
“I had the idea to make my bearded dragon a dress that Christmas with a new sewing machine I got. Upon showing my dad what I made, he said that’s really cool, you should sell that. I did some research and planned how to sell them. The Etsy was open a week or so later. Without my dad’s encouragement this never would have happened, lol. “

~How has your business grown over time?
“We had a boom over COVID which really helped keep me sane while in lockdown. We also have gone from made-to-order and custom size only to having a size chart and product in stock as to decrease processing time. That size chart I made took days of intense research to be able to figure out, it was one of the hardest and most complex things I have done for this business. With being closed for the past few years, we also reworked our shirt design for ease of construction and a more sophisticated look as well. Our quality, design, and production process is always improving to make it the most efficient process, and the safest, professional-looking lizard/small animal clothing around. “

~What would you like all your customers and potential customers to take away from supporting your small business?
“That supporting any small business helps support everyday people. That support specifically with reptile small businesses helps keep the reptile community going. Having people excited about my designs fuels my creativity and is a great motivator for me to keep putting out new designs and improving upon them. “

~What is your favorite item to create and sell?
“I love creating the new collections and new styles. The design work is by far the most fun. Picking which fabrics look good on such small clothes and which tiny laces and embellishments look the best, is just so fun for me.”

~What drives you to continue?
“I want to keep creating and share my creations with others. When people walk by my booth at reptile shows, the expression on their faces is just priceless for me. They are like hitting their friend going “OMG there is a lizard in a dress, we gotta go look.”

~What’s the most challenging thing about running your own small business?
“Especially when your small business isn’t your official full-time job, it’s hard to find time for another full-time job of running a small business. Time is usually the limiting factor for when I want to create something really elaborate and can’t reasonably do it. So it hard to limit myself like that when I am super excited about this new design and I just don’t have the time to make it a reality. “

~If you knew how much work goes into a small business at the start, would you do it again?
“Absolutely! It’s so rewarding to make things that others enjoy so much. Not to mention watching people smile when they see lizards in clothes is just amazing.”

~How do you wish your business would grow?
“I hope to one day be able to expand my business include a program to research and attempt to breed reptiles that are frequently wild caught. I want to do this so that we can still appreciate these reptiles as companions and we don’t have to harm wild populations. A bonus of which is getting to know more about their life cycles and natural behaviors to hopefully provide more enrichment for these species.”

~What is your advice for a new small business just starting out?
“It takes time and many setbacks to get to a goal. And that no path in life is ever a straight line there are always twists and turns along the way.”
