Today’s feature: Lovely Lenny Lizard!

As we spoke about in our last article one of Lovely Lenny Lizards’ core values is to SUPPORT our reptile

community. In doing so, we will feature a small business within the reptile community each Saturday!

We will spotlight one small business that we believe is an asset to the reptile community and should be

commended for their hard work. Here at Lovely Lenny Lizard, we believe every Saturday is

Small Business Saturday and we want to show them our support! Please join us as we get to know

them better and maybe introduce you to a small business you didn’t know about.

We hope you show your support by liking their posts, following their pages, and shopping

in their stores! We thought who better to introduce to you today than ourselves!

Without further ado, let’s get to know Lovely Lenny Lizard LLC a little better and how

we contribute to our reptile community!

~When did you start your small business?

“We celebrated Lenny Loo’s 3rd birthday in 2022 announcing the

creation of our new business. We had our first show in December

and were a full-fledged LLC by February of 2023. It feels like we have

been around so much longer though!”

~What was your motivation to do so?

“During Covid I found myself with a basement full of foster animals and

a need to feed all of them suddenly without a job. I looked around our

basement and saw my husband’s small army (4 at this time) 3D printers

and thought, maybe I can just print a few items to earn some extra cash

on the side? Thus the first sparks of LLL LLC was started.”

~How has your business grown over time?

“It’s hard to believe we have only been in business for 2 years but over

time we have offered so many different items and now we seem to be

narrowing it down to the items people really want or need. We love

offering products to improve the husbandry of your reptile and to show

others your passion as a reptile keeper!”

~What would you like all your customers and potential customers to take away from supporting your small business?

“Keeping reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates is a joy and a passion!

But keeping them correctly and having them live longer because of

your care is something to take pride in. Anyone can put a dragon in a

plastic cage, but those with a little knowledge can help any animal to

not only live but thrive under your care!”

~What is your favorite item to create and sell?

“Our couches! We take such pride in researching the correct fabric that

is safe for your beardies both under a basking light and outside the

enclosure. We spent a year finding a safe organic and non-toxic fabric

for our products. We saw how many folks were buying unsafe couches

for their reptiles and made sure that our product would stand out in

fashion, creativity and safety! Do you have your own couch yet?”

~What drives you to continue?

“Making the customers happy. Seeing repeat customers. But also the

reptile community as a whole. There are some incredibly uplifting

vendors within the expo world that just make it a joy to see them each

weekend. I love what I do, who I do it for and especially who I do it with!

If you have never been to a reptile expo please find a local one to

attend! It will open up a whole new world to you!”

~What’s the most challenging thing about running your own small business?

“I think the most challenging thing is having all these ideas I want to put

into play but being a one woman show. I do everything from coming up

with the idea, to creating it, to marketing it, to shipping it and more! It

seems like it never stops. They say you get back what you put into it.

I hope that’s true because I put 110% into everything I do!”

~If you knew how much work goes into a small business at the start, would you do it again?

“Yup. I don’t shy away from hard work. If it were easy everyone would

do it. I take pride in my business and the hard work that goes into

everything I do.”

~How do you wish your business would grow?

“I wish I would have over 10,000 followers on Instagram. It was a goal I

set for myself thinking it would happen in 2023. I can’t help but think

the more followers the more hits to the website, the more products that

can be purchased and then the more I can offer my customers. I hope

for my business to grow at a steady but not overwhelming rate. I love

vending shows and traveling but would love to be putting together

more orders at home during the week.”

~What is your advice for a new small business just starting out?

“Don’t give up. Try everything. Ask questions. Other vendors are your

friends, not competition. They have been in this game a lot longer,

learn from them. Be sweet to everyone. This world is so small and you

never know who has connections to the person you need to go further

with your small business, and also because it’s the right thing to do.
