Today’s feature: MOD Hammocks!

This small business SaturdayS Spotlight shines on MOD Hammocks! MOD Hammocks attends a lot of the same reptile expos as Lovely Lenny Lizard LLC. We get to see (and support) them as the continue to support our reptile community with their incredible products. As a reptile mom, I always look forward to seeing what new items they have! If you doubt me just take one look at Sol and Lenny’s hat collection!

Please join us as we get to know them better and maybe introduce you to a small business you didn’t know about. We hope you show your support by liking their posts, following their pages, and shopping in their stores! Without further ado let’s get to know MOD Hammocks and how they contribute to the reptile community!

~When did you start your small business?

“June 2015”

~What was your motivation to do so?

“At the time I was working at [an] exotic pet shop and had taken in a German giant who was not in the greatest shape. Over time we bonded and he was my best bud I always felt so bad none of the products in our shop could support his weight so I decided to try to make something special for him. When I first started making the hammocks I was sewing by hand and once they took off in our shop I decided to get a machine and learn how to sew on that instead and that changed everything. We started the Etsy page and then started doing all [the] different reptile shows up and down the east coast. Now we have a print farm for my hats and I have a better machine that can keep up with how much I make. Goliath was my best boy and he inspired so much of what I’ve created. Without him, I wouldn’t have done all of this.

~How has your business grown over time?

“It has grown a lot from just making hammocks to the day I was bored at home and made the first banana for Goliath to wear when we go out to now we have hats blankets toys and other in tank items as well.”

~What would you like all your customers and potential customers to take away from supporting your small business?

“For me, it’s really just about getting a good product out and educating when I can to anyone I meet at shows or shops or even online. I always put the animals first in my home and make sure what I make off my products always goes towards them as we still take in a few rescues that need extra help.”

~What is your favorite item to create and sell?

“My recent favorite would be all of the hats we have been creating. I love hand-painting all of them even if it takes hours I love putting in that little extra details to make them special.”

~What drives you to continue?

“My customers who have been with us since the beginning definitely. I love hearing from everyone and getting to do custom items as well. It’s been great getting to know them and sharing what we love with each other.”

~What’s the most challenging thing about running your own small business?

“Ha for me it’s never having enough time to do everything! I’m the crazy person up for hours after working all day before a show making extra fun things for everyone instead of trying to get some sleep.”

~If you knew how much work goes into a small business at the start, would you do it again?

“I would do it again in a heartbeat! I’ve met so many awesome people because of what I do I wouldn’t change a thing!”

~How do you wish your business would grow?

“I’d love to be able to put more time into it and possibly go full-time in the future and do shows all over the country if I could.”

~What is your advice for a new small business just starting out?

“Always just go for it even if you are nervous about if others will like what you have to offer. You never know what could happen!”
