Small Business Saturdays Spotlight has been featuring different small business owners and this week is no different! This week’s interview is from a business I haven’t seen before! And we attend many reptile expos! So if we haven’t seen them, it’s likely you haven’t either! Lenny Loo especially loved what they produce and we want to share all the good things we find! So, what better way to support them than to follow their social media pages and write a fun article featuring them in our education center?! We are happy to introduce you to this week’s spotlight Penn Grows with Beardie Greens!

Without further ado let’s get to know Penn Grows with Beardie Greens!
~Why did you start your small business?
“Penn Grows (penngrows.com) was started to provide super-nutritious microgreens, and Beardie Greens (beardiegreens.com), our pet line, was introduced more recently to cater specifically to the dietary needs of pets.”
~What was your motivation to do so?
“The motivation to start Beardie Greens came from a love for pets and the desire to offer them the same high-quality, nutritious products we provide for humans. Recognizing the gap in the market for fresh, nutrient-dense pet food inspired us to create a line dedicated to pets’ health and well-being.”
~How have you grown over time?
“We have expanded Beardie Greens by introducing a variety of microgreens specifically formulated for pets, such as bearded dragons. We’ve also increased our engagement with the pet owner community through local events and partnerships with pet stores.”
~What would you like all your customers and potential customers to take away from supporting you?
“We want our customers to feel that they are supporting a business dedicated to the health and happiness of their pets. By choosing Beardie Greens, they are promoting better nutrition for their pets and supporting sustainable, environmentally friendly farming practices.
Everything I make myself and every item is unique. I love providing something magical that people can connect to and purchase that they cannot get anywhere else.”
~What is your favorite thing you’ve created?
“One of our favorite creations is our freeze-dried microgreens mix formulated to be a topper for mammal food, gut-loader for feeder insects, and a great snack for plant-eating lizards and animals. It’s rewarding to see how much pets enjoy and benefit from our nutritious products.”
~What drives you to continue?
“The positive feedback from pet owners and seeing the health benefits our products bring to pets drive us to continue. Knowing that we are contributing to the well-being of pets and the satisfaction of their owners is incredibly motivating.”
~What’s the most challenging thing about running your own small business?
“Balancing the various aspects of the business, from production to marketing to customer service, is quite challenging. Ensuring consistent quality and meeting the diverse needs of our customers and their pets requires constant attention and effort.”
~If you knew how much work goes into a small business at the start, would you do it again?
“Absolutely. Despite the challenges, the rewards of seeing our products improve the lives of pets and their owners make it all worthwhile. The journey has been fulfilling and continues to inspire us.”

~How do you wish your business would grow?
“We hope to expand Beardie Greens further, both geographically and in terms of product offerings. We aim to introduce more specialized products for different types of pets and increase our presence in local and regional markets.”

~What is your advice for a new small business just starting?
“Stay passionate and committed to your mission. Understand that challenges will come, but they are part of the growth process. Build strong relationships with your customers and community, as their support is invaluable. Lastly, always prioritize quality and sustainability in your products.”
