Today’s feature: Ubby’s N’ Stuff

One of Lovely Lenny Lizards’ core value is to SUPPORT our reptile community. In doing so, we will

feature a small business within the reptile community each Saturday! We will spotlight one small

business that we believe is an asset to the reptile community and should be commended for their hard

work. Here at Lovely Lenny Lizard, we believe every Saturday is Small Business Saturday and we want to

show them our support! Please join us as we get to know them better and maybe introduce you to a

small business you didn’t know about. We hope you show your support by liking their posts, following

their pages, and shopping in their stores! Without further ado let’s get to know our VERY FIRST Small

Business Spotlight a little better!

~When did you start your small business?

“Ubby’s N’ Stuff @ubbysnstuff became an LLC in March 2015.”

~What was your motivation to do so?

“Back in 2014-2015 I was making blankets and donating them to dog

rescue groups. The shipping costs began to add up each month, so I

thought perhaps I could sell some blankets to raise some money to

help pay for the cost of the shipping.  During that time, my niece’s

birthday was coming up and so I made her a new “Ubby Blanket”. She

and her brother always have called their blankets an Ubby (rhymes

with Hubby). I made her and her bearded dragon both an Ubby.  She

said, “Aunt Kathy you could sell these”.  With high hopes, I registered

for a business LLC and named my business Ubby’s N’ Stuff, LLC, and

opened my Etsy shop. Etsy.com/shop/ubbysnstuff “

~How has your business grown over time?

“My business has grown and changed a lot over 8 years. I still feel

very strongly about donating to good causes, may they be a dog

rescue, reptile rescue, or farm sanctuary groups. I love seeing people

doing good for “those who don’t have a voice”.

My product offerings have grown from starting out with a few reptile

blankets on my Etsy Shop to now selling many different blanket

designs for reptiles, two sizes of hammocks, three sizes of hides, an

assortment of capes, sports capes, holiday capes, graduation capes,

hats, and crowns. I also do custom design orders.”

~What would you like all your customers and potential customers to take away from supporting your small business?

“When you buy an Ubby product, please know that the Ubby product

is specifically made for you. Each item is handmade with love and

care and a little magic.  I enjoy getting to know my customers and

their animals through my Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Etsy

shop.”

~What is your favorite item to create and sell?

“I love making all of my items, but my Ubby blankets will always be

closest to my heart.”

~What drives you to continue?

“The opportunity to be creative and I really love seeing happy pics of

my customer’s animals with all of my products.”

~What’s the most challenging thing about running your own small business?

“What may be challenging to some people has been exciting to me.

For instance, learning how to run my different embroidery and

sewing machines and learning new design software. Learning to do

taxes for a small business can be a challenge but learning to use

Quick Books for Self Employed and using an Accountant has really

made taxes much easier.”

~If you knew how much work goes into a small business at the start, would you do it again?

“Yes, I would still do it again. It’s been so rewarding to bring happiness

to so many animals and their hoomans.”

~How do you wish your business would grow?

“Each year, I like to come up with new designs and/or new products. I

aim to continue to build my product line and make Ubby items that I

hope my customers will love!”

~What is your advice for a new small business just starting out?

“Enjoy what you are making, make quality products, provide good

customer service, be approachable, and have good communication.”
